As a diocese we offer several Pilgrimages
A pilgrimage is a journey a pilgrim makes to a sacred place for the purpose of venerating it or to ask for heavenly aid, and ultimately to come to know God better. Christian pilgrimages were first made to sites connected with the birth, life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Shortly after, pilgrimages started being made to Rome and other sites associated with the Apostles, Saints and Christian martyrs, as well as places where there had been apparitions of the Virgin Mary. In the past, pilgrims would leave their homes, families, and comforts to walk for hundreds of miles with nothing but what they could carry on their backs. Just as the pilgrims from the early centuries, we modern pilgrims also leave our homes, families and comforts in order to journey to sacred places.
Lourdes Pilgrimage
Our annual Lourdes Pilgrimage provides an opportunity for us to gather as a Diocese with Bishop Declan and to pray and journey in faith. It is a time to step away from the rigours of life and to seek the peace, healing and grace which a pilgrimage experience can bring

World Youth Day – Lisbon 2023

Glastonbury Pilgrimage
It is such a wonderful witness to our town here in Glastonbury that amid all the ‘alternative’ beliefs, the old faith and devotion to Our Lady continues. She stands here in the shrine day after day, and watches the world turn. Unfortunately this Pilgrimage will not happen in 2020

Holy Land Pilgrimage
Since the time of Jesus, Christians have travelled from all over the world to walk the paths that Jesus walked and to visit sites that were significant during his lifetime. These include Bethlehem, Nazareth, Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee and Jerusalem, with visits to the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane and walking the Via Dolorosa.
The Whiting Way
The Whiting Way is a walking Pilgrim Way for the Diocese of Clifton. It has been developed by Phil McCarthy, a Clifton Cathedral parishioner, as part of the Hearts in Search of God Project to promote walking pilgrimage in England & Wales by developing a Pilgrim Way from every Catholic cathedral to one or more shrines in the same diocese.
